APUG Conference in Kuala Lumpur, hosted by TNB

APUG Conference in Kuala Lumpur, hosted by TNB

November 30, 2009 – A very successful APUG Conference was held in Kuala Lumpur on the 25th and 26th of November. More than 30 participants from 13 APUG Utility companies attended this event hosted by TNB, to discuss common topics of interest and for new initiatives to commence in early 2010.

The event also marks the last meeting held by previous APUG Chairman, Bob Dandie. After which, Mr. Dandie’s responsibilities will be assumed by Mr. SM Ho, CPO of CLP Power Hong Kong. Mr. Ho will be chairing APUG SC meetings going forward.

Topics discussed are summarized below:

APUG SMS: The APUG Supplier Management System has reached over 1,000 suppliers and is continuing to grow very strongly.

Project returns: There is interest in implementing some sort of information exchange about surplus and excess project equipment and materials. This is currently being developed in the revamp of the apug.com website and will be announced in the near future.

Factory assessments: The meeting agreed to commence the factory assessment and audit process and a new system alongside the APUG SMS have been implemented, leveraging from the existing Achilles processes globally. Particular support will be provided by Achilles UK. An initial target list of factories has been identified by the Working Group and by other utilities wishing for certain suppliers to be audited.
Chinese suppliers: Buyers from some other Achilles systems also want some Chinese suppliers to be assessed, and the Hong Kong office will start to manage a process for them to join various systems and to be audited.

Sourcing proposal: The Sourcing proposal for APUG is also of interest to other Achilles systems, with particular reference to Chinese and other Asian suppliers, as above.

Carbon measurement: Many utilities have expressed interest in implementing the carbon measurement programme, particularly including suppliers, and a specific interest group have been called after the exchange of more information.

Industry membership: More background information and specific procedures will be circulated for further consideration.

Benchmarking: The next round of information is due and a further request will be issued shortly.
APUG membership and growth: An APUG planning meeting will be held in Brisbane on 16th & 17th March. APUG members are asked to plan to attend for this meeting, as it will set the direction and priorities of APUG for the next couple of years. The meeting will also decide future marketing activities and the constitution. The Australian and New Zealand members will then hold a cluster meeting on the 18th of March 2010.

The next SC meeting is scheduled to be on 13th & 14th July 2010, in Hong Kong.
