– Transend Networks Pty Limited joins APUG, the first utility company from Tasmania Australia.

Transend owns and operates the electricity transmission system in Tasmania. The company take high voltage electricity from power stations and transmit it around Tasmania through a network of transmission lines and substations. Then they deliver it to Aurora Energy, who in turn distributes it—now as low voltage electricity—to the Tasmanian community on distribution lines. They also transport electricity directly to large consumers such as smelters and paper mills, and to the mainland via Basslink—an undersea cable that connects the Tasmanian power system to the mainland system in Victoria.

Transend own 3650 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, 47 substations and nine switching stations. They have assets valued at more than $1.3 billion and continue to invest to improve the transmission system in Tasmania.

Since 1998, the company have invested more than $500 million to upgrade and modernise the transmission system. And the program continues. It's a program that aims to inspire confidence—confidence that Tasmanians can depend on Transend to provide a reliable and secure electricity transmission service, now and in the future.

Transend is divided into functional groups. The company keeps a sharp focus on its core business of developing, operating and maintaining the transmission system. They use external suppliers and contractors to provide a wide range of specialised technical services rather than keeping all resources in-house.
