Tenaga Nasional Berhad from Malaysia joins APUG

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the largest electricity utility in Malaysia, has joined APUG as the newest member of the group.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad is the largest electricity utility with more than RM67.0 billion in assets. The Company is listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia and employs approximately 28,000 people to serve a customer base of over seven million in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah. TNB plays an integral role in the national, economic and social prosperity of the country by providing reliable and efficient services.

Indian Utilities Expansion

Mighty River Power, has joined APUG, as the most recent of the New Zealand members.
Mighty River Power's generation assets collectively account for up to 22% of New Zealand's peak energy demand. Mighty River Power is currently looking at a range of fuels and diverse generation options with a preference for renewable generation. Its business focus is about long-term sustainability and meeting New Zealand's growing energy needs while managing the environmental impact of its activities.

e-Qual: New Release!

The latest release of e-Qual was launched to live on Monday 30th June, providing enhanced navigation and functionality to buyers and suppliers. This signifies the completion of a 2 stage project, with input from UVDB, Supply Line, Connexio and Sellihca helping identify key improvements. These included the facility for buyers to attach documents, download reports and an email reminder facility. Suppliers also have a new reporting tool whilst all users benefit from improved views and navigation – the system is also now compatible with Firefox browsers.

Achilles and APUG will be exhibiting at CEPSI 2008, from 27th to 31st October 2008.
The Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) has become one of the premier events in Asia not just within its own industry but throughout the Asian business community. This bi-annual conference and exhibition is instrumental in the development of the electricity industry in the region. Member countries are appointed to host the conference on a rotational basis and this year the event will be held in Macau hosted by Companhia de Electricidade de Macau – CEM, S.A. a current APUG member.

New Zealand Utilities meet in Wellington

Meridian Energy recently hosted the first APUG meeting for utility companies in New Zealand. Held at their new 5 Star rated commercial office building on Wellington's waterfront, ten utilities attended the meeting with a guest appearance from Alan Jenkins, Chief Executive of the Electricity Networks Association (ENA). Amongst the invited guests were Vector, Northpower, Connetics, Genesis Energy, Todd Energy, Mighty River Power, Contact Energy and Liquigas.

Philippines’ water utility, Manila Water Company, first to join APUG.

The Manila Water Company is the first water utility, and company from the Philippines, to join the Asia Pacific Utilities Group (APUG). For over ten years now, Manila Water has been delivering water and sewerage services to more than five million customers within the eastern part of Metro Manila and some parts of the province of Rizal. Often recognised as one of the most successful public-private partnerships in the region, the Company has achieved significant milestones in its business. It was able to transform a public sector company into a financially stable, socially and environmentally responsible private company.
